If someone asked me about our experiences with Spanish Amigos/Amis Francais, I’d say…

(For childrens’ classes) — “Both our girls, ages 7 and 2, thoroughly enjoy Spanish Amigos! They look forward to each lesson, and we’ve been surprised at how much they practice it at home. It’s so cute to hear the little one saying “Me llamo Josie!” and counting and saying her colours in Spanish, and it’s fun learning along with her! It’s a feel-good class where parents and children learn together!”

(For the adult class) — “The instruction in the Adult Class is excellent. I spoke very little Spanish and was nervous about being in a “classroom” again after many years, but the atmosphere is relaxed and fun, with plenty of chances to speak and practice. Most of the other students were at the same beginning level as I was, so there was no self-consciousness about being a beginner. I can really see (and hear) the progress I’ve made in Spanish. I look forward to Monday evenings in Senora Carolina’s class!”

Spanish Amigos/Amis Francais is great!

We go to a relaxed little group for every Saturday, taken by Carolina and señor Pepe (a sombrero wearing cactus handpuppet). The children and adults sit in a circle on the carpet and learn little snippets of spanish, through singing, talking and using flashcards.

The class holds their attention very well, although given that some of the children are very young they will occasionally chew on a flashcard or decide to race around mum or dad. They have a great time for 30 minutes, and leave clutching a galleta (biscuit) and sporting a pegatina (sticker) if they can tell Carolina a new word they have learned. And the parents are often given ideas to help learn spanish in the home too.

The approach is learning through play, and the children learn in a very natural, easy way. Its amazing how much language sinks in, after a few sessions our daughter sang the ‘spanish amigos’ song from start to finish, completely out of the blue, and we were absolutely bowled over.

Its also great at giving the children confidence about speaking in front of other children and adults. Most children come to their first session and practically hide up their parents jumper when asked a question, but within a few weeks have come out of their shell and are chattering away happily.

I would definitely recommend it, and I’m sure our daughter would too, maybe even in spanish.

While on holiday in Spain the maid was trying to tell us something which we couldn’t understand until Jack came and translated to her, she understood!

I am surprised with the amount of Spanish they have learned. I was worried that the class would be repeated every year but I am glad to see that they progress
